EAT: ISSAN THAI STREET FOOD, FOOTSCRAY

Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants alike still dominate the Asian dining-scape of Footscray, but there is now some Thai amongst the mix with the opening of Issan Thai Street Food. It’s nice to know that there’s quality Thai food just down the road, and with prices that don’t break the bank. With a hankering for Thai food, I finally ticked this one off the list late last year. Popular Thai dishes like prawn tom yum soup, green curry and satay served with crispy roti are dishes that pack an incredible balance of fragrant aroma, spiciness, sweetness and/or sourness. Then there’s the Street Food Tasting Platter featuring quite a nice variety of this and that to make either a great shared entree, or meal for one hungry, hungry individual; papaya salad, grilled pork fillet slices, fried chicken wings, pork crackling, white noodles and egg. With a great first meal done and dusted, and plenty more tasty sounding dishes to try on the menu, this certainly won’t be our last visit to Issan Thai Street Food.

Mixed entree - with homemade spring rolls, vegetarian curry puff and fish cake.

Tom yum goong - hot and sour soup with lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime lead and prawn.

Roti & satay dipping sauce.

Veg & tofu green curry - cooked with Green chilli paste, coconut milk and palm sugar with sweet Thai basil.

Street Food Tasting Platter - papaya salad, moo yag (grilled Thai style marinated pork fillet), chicken wings, pork crackling, white noodles, beanshoots and boiled egg.
