EAT: WARRATINA LAVENDER FARM, YARRA VALLEY

Sitting amongst the lush green of the Yarra Valley is a sea of purple at the gorgeous Warratina Lavender Farm. Well, purple only when you visit during the warmer spring and summer months between harvesting and regrowth. Find your zen by taking a stroll through the fragrant blooms and gardens before sitting down with hot cuppa accompanied by some fresh lavender baked goods. We tried a lavender scone with a nice dollop of jam and cream, and lavender shortbread cookies. The scones were perhaps a little dense but the crust was spot on. On the other hand, the shortbread cookies were perfect through and through with an incredible buttery shortness that just melted in the mouth. Both the cookies and scones had only subtle notes of lavender, but subtle definitely suited us. Any stronger would probably be akin to eating… potpourri perhaps? We only stopped by briefly for morning tea before moving onto the next destination but they also serve larger, savoury dishes here if you’re after something more substantial.
