EAT: ACRE RESTAURANT, BURWOOD BRICKWORKS

Farm-to-table dining has landed… not in woop woop but rather on the rooftop of an urban development in Burwood. Meet Acre Farm and Eatery, the Burwood Brickworks edition - an extension of the existing Sydney counterpart in Camperdown.

The stunningly gorgeous rooftop space features a greenhouse, several gardens, a cafe, and a restaurant, paving the way to being a dining destination where the journey is just as important as the final stop, or rather what lands on your plate.

THE SPACE

THE RESTAURANT

We umm’ed and err’ed between dining at the cafe or restaurant, but ultimately ended up at the latter. It looks like we’ll just have to return another time for the cafe experience. The dishes on offer highlight quality and seasonal produce, so you know you’re in for a good feed. We eased into lunch with the prosciutto and melon - juicy and sweet melon harmonising perfectly with the slight salty flavour profile of prosciutto. The tomato and caramelised onion tart an absolute standout - a crispy pastry base with countless delicate flaky layers adorned with tomato, caramelised onion and creamy mozzarella. The spaghetti element of the roasted eggplant spaghetti dish spot-on silky and al dente but perhaps slightly lacking in eggplant presence - tasty nonetheless thanks to the punchiness from the chilli and herbaceous mint. The fried chicken ribs were crispy perfection, its seasoning finger-lickin’ delicious but don’t skimp on the accompanying spiced romesco sauce - a flavour explosion that ups the flavour ante by a long shot. Lastly, a cloudy soft cherry souffle that does well in highlighting the natural sweet and tart cherry flavour - hold the white chocolate sauce if you prefer your desserts on the less sweet side.

Prosciutto and melon - with baby acre herbs.

Tomato and caramelised onion tart - with fior de bufala and local oil.

Thick cut chips - served with herb salt and aioli.

Roasted eggplant spaghetti - with walnuts, chilli and mint.

Fried chicken ribs - with spiced romesco.

Cherry souffle - served with white chocolate sauce.
