REVIEW: ORIENTAL TEAHOUSE, SOUTH YARRA

Given that catch ups with the family often take place over yum cha lunches (or banquet dinners), it's good to know where all the great yum cha eateries are located around town. In the inner South area, there's Oriental Teahouse.

Traditional favourites like steamed barbecue pork bao buns, har-gow (prawn), prawn and chives, and prawn and ginger dumplings are absolutely spot on; airy light bao texture, and silky dumpling wrappers paired with the right amount of chewy bite. Steering towards slightly more adventurous combinations that aren't typically encountered at other eateries include the XO scallop dumplings with a gorgeous amount of spice and flavour that lift the natural sweetness of the scallops, and fragrant roast duck dumplings with Peking sauce. Regardless of whether you're looking for a traditional or modern yum cha feed (or both!), Oriental Teahouse has both fronts well covered, serving up one steaming good time.
